Sweet and Hull's  Highlights

The Great American Fundraiser begins this Friday, October 5th and runs through 10/19.  Thank you for helping to participate in this fundraiser. The funds created will directly impact students at Woodland Elementary.  The Woodland PAC does a great job giving to our student body. To learn more, feel free to come to our next PAC Meeting Monday, October 8th from 6:30-7:30.

We look forward to seeing you all come to our Family Night which will focus on SLED/STEM activities. Family Night is Thursday, October 4th from 6-7:30.  We will also be giving you our annual Title 1 report. SLED/STEM education is active and focuses on a student-centered learning environment. Students engage in questioning, problem solving, collaboration, and hands-on activities while they address real life issues. Students learn to investigate questions about the world when they come across them in daily life!

The High Five Program is up and running at school.  We had our first drawing to highlight students who were "caught" using our life skills and earned Owl Honors. Students earned things such as: Free book, Movie Night Pass, Extra Recess, Lunch with Principal.  We are excited to continue highlighting students making positive choices at school! Way to go Woodland Owls!

With conferences coming up, we look forward to discussing all the great things your children are doing while at school. Woodland Elementary values the parental partnership we have and we appreciate everything you do to help make your children successful at school.

School Closings and Delays:

For information on school closings and delays, please tune to WLFI TV 18, WASK 98.7 (radio), WAZY 96.5 or TSC Website, Sign up to receive notices via email or text at

The tardy bell rings at 9:00 a.m. If a student arrives at school after the tardy bell rings we require a parent to walk the student into the building and sign the student in at the office. A hallway pass will be given to the student and they may proceed to class.

Woodland is looking for people who are interested in substituting as an instructional assistant when a member of the Woodland Staff would be absent. People are needed to help with supervision of students at recess and in the cafeteria. Woodland also needs individuals who are willing to work with individual or small groups through the resource room. If you are interested and able to help out with these paid substitute opportunities, please contact Ms. Nulty at Woodland.

Tippecanoe School Corporation and Woodland Elementary Website!!

TSC's website underwent a complete overhaul last summer. It has essentially become a one stop shop for all news, events, and reminders. Please take some time to explore the site and the "Parents" tab. Under this tab you will find how to access the ParentPortal and most importantly—how to sign up for alerts.  Please click the link "TSC Alerts & Notifications".  This link will take you to a document that will guide you in signing up for alerts via text or email. This is  very important because of late buses. Or weather delays/cancellations. It is also a great way to get reminders for events that we place on our school calendar. If you have questions, please call the Woodland office.

PLEASE be sure to keep your EMAIL ADDRESS  up to date on your ParentPortal for important communication from the school office!!

All students who are picked up and /or dropped off by cars are to utilize the back parking lot. Students should enter doors #16 and #17. Students may not be dropped off before 8:50. Please do not let your student out of the vehicle before you see an adult.

The front parking area is for unloading and loading buses only. Please DO NOT drop off any students in the front of the building.

All doors will be locked at 9:00. If your child arrives after 9:00 please enter through the front doors and you must sign them in at the office.

The Kindergarten, 1st, 4th grade students recently completed an initial hearing screen.  If your student passed the screening, nothing will be done. If your child has failed their screening, they will be re-screened in 4-6 weeks.  You will receive notice if your child passes the re-screen, and further instructions if your child fails the re-screen. If you would like more information regarding hearing screens, please feel free to call Miranda Bentley, Woodland's Speech-Language Pathologist.

Nurse News

The Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade students had a vision screening conducted by the Lion's Club on 9/14/18. We have sent out referrals for students who failed their vision screening. Please return failed referral forms to school with your student once they have been completed by their optometrist. If you would like more information regarding their exams, please feel free to call the health office. We will be happy to speak with you.

We have sent TSC Asthma Forms out to students who have asthma. Please complete this form and return it to school as soon as possible. To create a plan for your student's care at school, we need more information. There are two forms. The blue form that has the TSC logo is to be completed by parent or guardian. The second form, Asthma Action Plan, is voluntary and is completed by your student's health care provider if desired. Please contact us in the health office if you have any questions.

Indiana state policy states that a school must have updated immunization records on file for each student at the start of the school year. If you know that you have not sent in these records please do so. IC 20-34-4-3 Indiana Code 2015

Prescription and over the counter medications need to be brought in by a parent/guardian. Please do not send medication in your student's backpack. This includes cough drops. Thank you for your effort in this.

Thank you to everyone that has donated items to the health office. We appreciate your generosity!

If you have any questions please feel free to contact the Woodland Health Office.

Volunteer Procedures Changing - Effective September 30, 2018 -- Don't wait!

It is a priority of the Tippecanoe School Corporation to provide a safe learning environment for all of our students and employees. In an effort to continue our due diligence, we now require all volunteers having ongoing contact with children and/or supervising students (field trips, etc.) to have cleared an expanded criminal background check. These background checks are conducted through Background Investigation Bureau (BIB).

The criminal background check will search national sex offender databases, court records, and other sources. The cost of the criminal history check is $17.95 (base cost) and is paid for by the volunteer through a link on our website. SECUREVOLUNTEER

Once approved, the volunteer will receive a TSC Volunteer identification card that will be valid for a period of three (3) years. If you volunteer in multiple buildings, you will only need to complete one background check.

Volunteer background checks may take several business days to process so it is important to plan ahead.

We appreciate your understanding of this important safety guideline.
