PACERS GAME!!! If you are interested in attending the Pacers game with your child, family, and/or friends on February 3rd, please see the flyer that was sent home with your child or contact the office.  Family and friends of the school can sit together as a group and receive a special discounted ticket price.  Additionally, a portion of each ticket purchased will go right back to Woodland Elementary. This event benefits the Woodland PAC by generating funds that directly impact the classroom.  The next PAC meeting will take place Monday, January 15th, at 6:30 p.m. in the media center. We hope to see you there!!!

This week and next, students will complete the second round of NWEA.  We completed the first round during the first few weeks of school. The test will take approximately 2 hours to take spanned over 2 or 3 days.  For specific dates on when your child will be testing, please contact your child's teacher.  NWEA stands for Northwest Evaluation Association. The NWEA has different tests and in TSC we are using the MAP test for grades 3-5 and the Map for Primary Grades for grades K-2. MAP stands for Measures of Academic Progress. All NWEA assessments are done on the computer. In grades K-2, the assessment is given to students with an audio recording; they are not expected to be able to read the questions independently. The NWEA assessments helps teachers and students both set goals for growth over the course of the year. These assessments also allow teachers to see individual student strengths and struggles so that each teacher can work to best meet all the needs of each student. NWEA is a different kind of assessment because it not only allows teachers and students to see overall growth over the year, but the assessment itself is adaptive. As students are taking the assessment, the questions adjust difficulty level to better match each student's abilities. Teachers then use the assessment results to guide instruction to meet the needs of each student over the course of the year to enhance overall learning growth for all.

Please remember that car riders are to be dropped off behind the building at the door #16 or #17 entrance. Lately, we have had a number of people wanting to drop off in front and this causes unneeded and potentially dangerous traffic congestion with the school buses. The only time a parent should be parking in front of the building is if they need to accompany their child(ren) into the school with questions, special delivery of projects or treats or other school business. Thanks for your cooperation in following these established procedures.

The second set of parent/teacher conferences will be held the week of February 12th.  Late afternoon and evening conferences will be on Tuesday, February 13th and Thursday, February 15th. The same schedule used for the October conferences will be followed and you will receive notification of your time in the next few weeks. Should this time not work for this conference, please communicate with your child's teacher to find a different mutually convenient time. The Woodland PAC will also be hosting a Book Fair during that week.

A few dates to remember:  ISTEP+ round 1 will begin 2/26 and go through 3/9.  Round 2 will begin 4/16-5/4.  IREAD will take place 3/12-3/16.  More information to come as these things get closer.

Lifeskills for the next two weeks are Friendship and Curiosity.

Nurse News

Powerschool

Please update your contact information on Powerschool for all of your children individually that come to school. In the case of an emergency we need to be able to reach a parent or guardian to be informed of incidents or to come pick their child up from school. If we cannot reach a parent during an emergency we are required to contact EMS and send the child on an ambulance to the emergency room. Thank you for your help in this.

Winter Coats

If you have borrowed a winter coat from the health office and do not need it, please return them for other students to use as needed. Please also remember that it is cold outside and the student's do go outside for recess if the wind chill is at or above 24 degrees. Please send your student's to school with a winter coat.

Immunizations

If your child is needing immunizations, please have those taken care of.

Donations

We are in need of size XL coats for students to use at recess. We appreciate your help in keeping our Woodland Owls warm this winter!

Flu and Cold Season

Please do not send your child to school if they have been vomiting at home the night prior to the next school day. We have a lot of children getting sick with the flu at school. Please remember to wash hands before eating meals to help prevent illnesses. We will send student's home if they are vomiting, have diarrhea, and or a fever at or above 100. Students with these conditions should be kept at home. Teaching good hygiene habits at home will help prevent sickness.

Lice

Thank you for checking your children for lice at home. Students suspected of having head lice will be sent to the health office for a head lice inspection. If live lice or nits are noted, the parent/guardian will be notified. If live lice are found the student may be excluded from school at the discretion of Health Office Personnel. Students will not be excluded for the presence of nits.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact the Woodland Health Office.
