Hull Highlights

This coming Wednesday, April 25, is Administrative Professional's Day. Ms. Nulty and Mrs. Kirk, our two outstanding secretaries, help keep the daily operations of Woodland Elementary School on schedule!  We appreciate all they do for our students, our parents and our staff!!

Please remember that ISTEP+ multiple-choice online testing will continue next week, too. We appreciate your cooperation in scheduling appointments outside of school hours as much as possible. A good night's sleep and a nutritious breakfast each morning for your children is the best preparation parents can provide during these days. Also, a big thanks goes to the Woodland Parent Advisory Council for providing nutritious snacks during testing weeks!

The Lifeskills for the next two weeks are effort and common sense.

Sweet's Stop

Summer school invitations went home this week to those 2nd and 3rd graders who qualified for this summer's program.  Summer school will be held at Woodland this summer for the south side. Students attend 8:30-11am (transportation is provided).  I will be here hosting as the summer school principal. Please return the invitation forms as quick as possible as we try to make classes for the program. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

5th grade students will be viewing the Human Growth and Development videos in late April and early May.  If you are interested in previewing these videos or have any questions about the videos please contact Kathy Hudgins, klhudgins@tsc.k12.in.us to do so.

Thank you for all your help with following car rider procedures. Lately, things have been going great.  Although it may take a couple extra minutes, it does help keep all the students safe. For those new to the procedure,  car riders are to be dropped off behind the building at the door #16 or #17 entrance. The only time a parent should be parking in front of the building is if they need to accompany their child(ren) into the school with questions, special delivery of projects or treats or other school business. In the afternoon, please have your number visible so the caller can radio in to have your child(ren) come out! Thanks for your cooperation in following these established procedures. They help the line move quickly and students stay safe!

VISION TESTING

First graders were screened for their vision on Thursday 4-19-18 by Dr. Kirchner, OD. Any concerns found in your child(ren)'s vision testing will be sent home with a referral form. Please see your optometrist and have the form filled out. If you do not receive a referral, no concerns for your child's vision have been found.

IMMUNIZATIONS

Indiana State Department of Health has changed immunization requirements. You will find an updated list of required immunizations in this newsletter. Attached is a flyer for the Shots Clinic Schedule with the Tippecanoe County Health Department. If you would like to receive immunizations from the Health Department please call to schedule an appointment with them.

PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONS

It is getting near to the end of the school year. Medications stored in the health office will need to be brought home by the student's parent/guardian. We will send out notification forms toward the last weeks of school to remind you of medication that is still in the health office for your child(ren). Medications not picked up from school by the end of the last day of school will be sent to the police department for proper disposal. We thank you for your continued support and hope you have a great rest of the year.

OTC MEDICATIONS

Our primary focus is on the health and well-being of your child. The goal for our staff is to provide our students with appropriate treatments to keep them at school and in class. The TSC physician provides standing orders for our health offices. These orders allow the use of first-aid medications including contact solution, eye drops, topical antiseptics, topical analgesics, throat lozenges/spray, antacids, oral glucose, and activated charcoal. Antihistamines (Benadryl and Pepcid) will be used as the first treatment of severe allergic reactions, and epinephrine is available if needed. It is the parent's/guardian's responsibility to notify the health office at their child's school if they prefer these items not be used when treating their child.

EXCLUSIONS

Students with vomiting, diarrhea, undiagnosed eye infections, or fever over 100° should not attend school. They should be symptom free for 24 hours. Students exhibiting these symptoms at school will be sent home. Please do not send your child to school with these symptoms. Thank you very much for your understanding.
