"I appreciate you for protecting our rights and freedoms," writes Lilly, a third-grade student at Mintonye Elementary School. It is part of a thank you letter that she is writing as part of Veterans Day activities in her class.
While students at Mintonye created a star-spangled wreath, wrote thank you letters and heard from a guest speaker, other schools presented special programs filled with music to honor veterans.
At Burnett Creek Elementary, students filled the gym with singing "God Bless America" and other patriotic songs for visiting veterans and their families.
The parking lot and driveways at Harrison High School are lined with American flags. Inside, the names of family members and friends who have served our country are posted on a tribute wall.
Mintonye teacher Connie Harper says it is important for students to gain a better understanding of the sacrifices our veterans have made and give them the utmost respect.
