Mayflower Mill

January 2019

Welcome back for another exciting semester at The Mill! As we begin our second semester, we want to remind parents to sign up for text alerts for weather delays or cancellations. This is the quickest way to find out if there is a delay or cancellation.  If you ever have any questions please call the office.

Each year we seem to have some confusion around the TSC Calendar. Please pay attention to the following dates. We hope addressing these days early will help with the confusion surrounding them.

  • Martin Luther King, Jr Day- School is IN SESSION on  Monday, January 21st. Students are expected to be in attendance. Students who miss school on this day will not have an excused absence unless seen by a doctor.
  • President's Day- President's Day is used as a snow makeup day for November 15th. School is IN SESSION on Monday, February 18th.
  • Snow makeup days- We will be utilizing our 1 built in snow makeup day on February 18th. All future days missed will be added to the end of the school year. Please stay tuned to future newsletters regarding the last day of school.

Kindergarten Round Up has been scheduled for Wednesday, April 10th. Please save the date and notify anyone who has a child that will be 5 years old on or before August 1, 2019 to contact us as soon as possible by calling the office or emailing Mrs. Kochert at We will need to begin the registration process before Round Up. Registration does not take place at Round Up. Parents will need to bring their child's legal birth certificate and immunization record on April 10th! Your child must turn 5 years old before August 1, 2019 to be eligible. If you choose to email Mrs. Kochert please include the following information:

1. Child's full legal name (first, middle, last)

2. Child's date of birth

3. Parent/Guardian's name (first and last name)

4. Mailing address

5. phone number

6. Child's race/ethnicity

7. Does your child have an IEP?

With cooler weather, it's important to make sure your child is dressed appropriately. Please make sure your child is prepared to go outside with a coat, hat and gloves for recess. We will go outside to recess each day unless it is raining, snowing heavily, or the temperature is below 20 degrees. Please check the weather report daily to help your child make appropriate choices in what to wear. Per TSC policy, all students are required to go to recess each day unless they have a note from the doctor. If your child has outgrown a coat and you no longer have any use for it, please consider donating to our caring closet for students who may not have one. Also, if your child is in need of a coat, hat or gloves please contact us and we will try to get one for them.

Please do not forget to sign up for text alerts and notifications so you can be notified of a delay or cancellation. Parents/guardians must have an active PowerSchool Parent Portal account with an accurate email address in order to sign in to the website. To sign in for the first time, you will click the "Forgot Username or Password" option on the website login page, then enter the email address associated with your PowerSchool account. You will then reset the password for the website account, add a cell phone number and register for SMS (text) alerts. TSC students and staff will sign in to the website with their TSC username and password. Please contact the TSC Technology Department with any questions regarding this process by email or by phone at 765-269-8060.

With winter weather approaching, the possibility of a 2 hour delay increases. If the delay is 2 hours, school will begin at 10:50am. Students should not come to school before 10:50am. If your child rides a bus, the pick-up time will be delayed by 2 hours. For example, if your child's bus comes at 8:35 on a normal day, it will arrive at 10:35 on a day we have a 2 hour delay. On 2 hour delay days, we will not serve breakfast. Our lunch will begin serving at 11:30, our regular time for Kindergarten. We again encourage everyone to register for the text message alerts. It is the most convenient notification concerning delays, closings and other events at Mayflower Mill Elementary. The TSC web page is also a fast way to learn about school delays and closings.

Congratulations to Owen Babiak and Paulo Montes Paz! Their drawings were chosen to be the covers of our 2018-2019 yearbook. Paulo's design will be featured on the front cover and Owen's will be on the back. Yearbook order forms will be coming home soon!

If you plan to be a visitor at MME you must sign in at the office and receive a visitor's badge. If you are simply dropping off an item to your child, we ask that you do not interrupt class, rather just drop the item in the office and we will make sure your child gets it. If you wish to speak with a teacher, please set up a time that is convenient with them. This can be done via email or by leaving the teacher a voicemail.  Instruction time is vital and we prefer not to interrupt the classroom unless absolutely necessary.

Please feel free to join your child for lunch on any given day. We do ask that you call us by 10:30am so we can notify the cafeteria with plenty of notice. We also ask that you do not bring fast food into the school building. You are more than welcome to bring in a sack lunch or eat a school lunch. Thank you for your understanding! Adult lunches are $2.70. Please bring exact change.

If your child is a car rider you must use the car rider line at the back door. Car rider students may not enter or exit through the front doors. Please DO NOT drop off your children before 8:45am and leave. The teachers and staff are in meetings and are not available to supervise your student. The car rider doors have adults supervising them from 8:45-9:00am. If your student arrives later than 9:00am please bring them in the front entrance and sign them in Tardy at the office. This is for their safety. Students are only considered tardy if they arrive after 9:00 am. Please see the car rider map below. If you have further questions you may call the office at (765)538-3875. Thank you.

Please do not send your child to school if they have had a temperature over 100, vomiting, or diarrhea in the last 24 hours. If a student is sent home from school for fever, vomiting or diarrhea they will be out the following day as well. Students CANNOT bring medicine to school.  All medicines & inhalers have to be brought to school BY THE PARENT. Cough drops CANNOT be sent to school either, we have cough drops in the health room students can take when needed.

Please don't forget to call or email the school in the event your child is absent. You can call the office at 765-538-3875 anytime. You can leave a message if no one is available to take your call. If you prefer to email, you may do that also. Please email both Cheryl and Danielle at and Thank you!

If your student arrives to school after 9am, they are tardy. You must come into the office and sign him/her in. Once your student has been signed in Tardy, a pass will print for your child to take to their teacher. To avoid further classroom interruption, your student is expected to walk to class on their own. If they need assistance walking to class we will gladly help them. Not signing your student in could result in them accidentally being counted absent for the entire day. If possible, please contact the office to inform us your child will be Tardy and give us their lunch preference. Students are considered Tardy until 10:30am. Arriving after 10:30am will result in a half day AM absence.

If you need to pick up your child for an appointment during the school day, please send a note with your child or call the office. You must come into the building to sign your student out in the office. Please note that after 3pm, the office will not interrupt your child's class.  Student's signed out prior to 2pm will be given a half day PM absence. If you sign your child out after 2pm, it will result in a PM Tardy. This is the only code we have in our system to show that a student left early that does not count as a half day absence.
