Second Graders Learn about a Special Teacher

On Monday, December 17 the second grade classes met Kathy Nimmer, a blind teacher from Harrison High School.  She is an English teacher who became blind in third grade from an illness.  We had many questions for her about her life, how she reads, and her guide dog Nacho. Kathy uses braille to read books and even to play games, like Uno. She taught us how braille is like dominoes.  They are little dots that stick out and each set of dots stands for a letter or number.  Just like learning anything new, she explained to the students that it was hard at first but you get better as you keep practicing.  Nacho is her guide dog that goes everywhere with her.  He is a working dog that knows several commands and helps Kathy get around school and her community.  Kathy and Nacho make a great team together. Thanks Kathy for sharing your inspiring life story!

ATTENTION 5TH Grade Parents!!

Parents of students in Miss Straw, Mrs. Wright, Mr. Webber, and Miss. Martin's fifth grade classes are invited to attend an
informational meeting about the spring Indiana Dunes field trip on February 19, 2019 at 6:30 pm in the school cafeteria. At this meeting parents will learn about how to register their child for the field trip, what to pack, how much it will cost, volunteering to chaperone, and the field trip schedule. Computers will also be available to register students for those who do not have access to the internet. Students do not need to attend this meeting.

The Tippecanoe School Corporation is partnering with Bright Bytes, an educational research organization, in order to learn more about our students' school and home technology use for learning. We are reaching out to ask you to take part in the Technology & Learning questionnaire. Your participation is essential in helping us form a more complete picture of technology use for learning in your students' lives. Please know that all of your responses will remain anonymous to protect your privacy.

Additionally, we ask if you have students in multiple buildings, please be sure to fill out the survey for each building. Thank you for your participation in this activity.

Two children bundled up for winter

Bundle Up

It's cold outside!

TSC policy is that all students MUST go outside unless they have a doctor's note for a specific time frame. We will continue to go outside unless the wind chill is below 20. Please make sure your child has a jacket, hat and gloves for outdoor recess. Recent studies show that outside play helps to develop the prefrontal cortex.  It calms anxiety and refocuses the brain. Sweatshirts and jackets should accompany students to school and recess. Please label your child's belongings either inside the pocket, cuff or on a tag so that when they misplace them we can return them!  Talk to your child about the need to be proactive in dressing for the weather! Thank you for partnering with us to keep your child safe and active!

Schkool Lunch with apple

School Lunch:

Fast food is not permitted in the cafeteria at Wea Ridge. If you are coming to have lunch with your student you may order a hot lunch by calling ahead to the office the morning of your visit or bringing a sack lunch from home. TSC and school policy states that any food purchased as "carryout" is considered "fast food".

We love to have guests eat lunch with us! It is $2.70/Adult and $1.90/Child. Tippecanoe School Corporation Policy does not allow us to charge a guest lunch on a students account. We accept cash or checks. Please be aware, that we are not allowed to give change back, so the correct amount is appreciated.

Thanks so much! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school office at 765-471-9321

Stay informed of weather delays and closings

Snow, fog and other conditions can cause a delay to the start of our school day. Make sure you are signed up for TSC alerts and notifications so you will be informed about a change in the regular school schedule.

Families can receive instant messages via email or text from the TSC through our website. Click on the "Parents" tab at the top and look for the link to "TSC Alerts & Notifications" with instructions on how to create an account. Make sure you are signed up for the "TSC alerts, delays and closings" option, not just for your school's news and alerts.

A delay or cancellation will also be posted on our websites. You will get a pop-up message as soon as you go to the TSC or any TSC school website.

TSC officials notify numerous media outlets if there has been a change to the regular school schedule. These media outlets include, but are not limited to, 105.3 FM-WKOA, 98.7 FM-WASK, WLFI-TV 18, 96.5 FM-WAZY, Journal & Courier and Indianapolis TV stations.

Several factors are considered when making the decision to delay or cancel school. They include road conditions, temperatures, the ability to safely operate buses and the condition of our buildings and parking lots. To learn more, check out the responses to these Frequently Asked Questions.
