Sweet and Hull's  Highlights

Woodland Elementary has been blessed to have a backpack program. This program helps provide proper nutrition for the Woodland Students. Malnourished children lack energy, so they become less curious and playful and communicate less with the people around them, which impairs their physical, mental and cognitive development. 20% of children in households at risk of hunger may be forced to rely exclusively on charitable organizations to obtain the recommended amount of nutrition. As of now, Woodland has almost completely run out of funds for this program. Please consider donating money to help keep the program going. A donation of any size will help.

How:
Please mail a check or money order to:
Food Finders Food Bank
1204 Greenbush
Lafayette, IN 47904

Please include with your check a note or letter stating that your donation should be applied to  Woodland Elementary School's account.

If you are unable to send a donation directly to Food Finders, you may send it to Woodland instead. Thank you so much for your consideration!

The annual Woodland Elementary School blood drive will be held on Wednesday, January 30th from 3:00-7:30 p.m. in the gym.  Information will be coming home soon. You may schedule your appointment online (www.indianablood.org) or return the form and we will schedule for you.  We appreciate your support and participation in this worthwhile service project. We would love to fill the gym up all night with donors!!!

As weather approaches and the winter season is upon us, please make sure you have signed up for weather alerts. You can do so at this website: https://www.tsc.k12.in.us/about/tsc-alerts-and-notifications

The second set of parent/teacher conferences will be held the week of February 4th.  Late afternoon and evening conferences will be on Tuesday, February 5th and Thursday, February 7th. The same schedule used for the October conferences will be followed and you should have received notification of your time this week. Should this time not work for this conference, please communicate with your child's teacher to find a different mutually convenient time. The Woodland PAC will also be hosting a Book Fair during that week.

Here are a few dates to remember this semester.   IREAD will take place 3/18-3/22. ILEARN will take place 4/22-5/17.  More information to come as these things get closer.

Reminders

The tardy bell rings at 9:00 a.m. If a student arrives at school after the tardy bell rings we require a parent to walk the student into the building and sign the student in at the office. A hallway pass will be given to the student and they may proceed to class.

Woodland is looking for people who are interested in substituting as an instructional assistant when a member of the Woodland staff would be absent. People are needed to help with supervision of students at recess and in the cafeteria. Woodland also needs individuals who are willing to work with individual or small groups through the resource room. If you are interested and able to help out with these paid substitute opportunities, please contact Mrs. Kirk at Woodland.

Nurse News

Thank you families for continuing to keep your children healthy! We have noticed that you are making a difference at home and teaching valuable hand washing skills! I see lots of students being diligent to wash their hands. Students with vomiting, diarrhea, undiagnosed eye infections, or fever over 100° should not attend school. They should be symptom free for 24 hours. Students exhibiting these symptoms at school will be sent home.
