A Message from the Principal

John Pearl

A note about teacher requests:  If you would like to request a teacher for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year those forms are available in the BGE and BGI school offices.  You must come to the office in person to fill out the request -- no emails or phone calls please.  We also will require a first choice and second choice of teacher.  The deadline for filling out the forms is April 5th.

The Tippecanoe School Corporation will host Kindergarten Roundup for the 2019-2020 school year on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at all 11 of its elementary schools. On Kindergarten Roundup day we will be administering the kindergarten assessment test for each new Kindergartner.

Nurse Notes with a bandaid picture

Students with vomiting, diarrhea, undiagnosed skin rashes, or fever over 100 degrees should not attend school.  Students exhibiting these symptoms at school will be sent home.

With vomiting and diarrhea, the school nurse will evaluate any associated circumstances and other symptoms before making an exclusion decision.  Children vomit for reasons other than illness, including coughing, stress, exertion, reflux and food intolerance.

Students with vomiting, diarrhea, or fever over 100 degrees should not return to school until the symptoms have resolved without medication for 24 hours.

Students with pink eye may return to school with a doctor's note when the symptoms subside or when a student shows treatment has begun with appropriate eye drops.  Contagious skin rashes should be reported to your school nurse and a note will be required by your child's physician to return to school.

Please remember with all of these exclusion criteria that our job is to facilitate students remaining in school.  Our goal is to have the child miss as little class time as possible.

open book with IREAD 3

On March 18, 2019 all third grade students at Battle Ground Elementary will be taking the IREAD3 Test.  This test is used as a basic measure of your child's ability to read.  Passing this test is a determination in most cases for passing into fourth grade.  Below, please find three links with information about this test.  Your child's teacher will/has been in contact with you regarding your child's progress this school year in reading.  Please work closely with the teacher and continue to make reading a priority at home.

box of toys clip art for A.R. store

             The A.R. store needs YOU!

The A.R. store continues to accept donations.  If you have any gently used toys, stuffed animals, books or games that your children no longer utilize, the A.R. store would gladly accept them.  Please be sure that the items sent are clean, in working order, and that all pieces and parts are included.  Donations of prepackaged goodies are also encouraged:  Rice Krispie Treats, single-serve packages of cookies, Goldfish, Cheez-its, for example.  The A.R store will also accept monetary donations so that new merchandise can be purchased.  Since Mrs. Cupp is the buyer, if you wish to donate by check, please make it payable to Tina Cupp.  Thank you for your continued support of the A.R. store.  The children love shopping and are always happy to see the variety of merchandise.  It is a motivating reward for all of the reading that they do... and boy do they read!

Volunteer Informaton

It is a priority of the Tippecanoe School Corporation to provide a safe learning environment for all of our students and employees. In an effort to continue our due diligence, we now require all volunteers having ongoing contact with children and/or supervising students (field trips, etc.) to have cleared an expanded criminal background check. These background checks are conducted through Background Investigation Bureau (BIB).

The criminal background check will search national sex offender databases, court records, and other sources. The cost of the criminal history check is $17.95 (base cost) and is paid for by the volunteer through a link on our website.

Once approved, the volunteer will receive a TSC Volunteer identification card that will be valid for a period of three (3) years. If you volunteer in multiple buildings, you will only need to complete one background check.

Volunteer background checks may take several business days to process so it is important to plan ahead.

We appreciate your understanding of this important safety guideline.
