A Message from the Principal

A note about teacher requests: If you would like to request a teacher for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year those forms are available in the BGE and BGI school offices. You must come to the office in person to fill out the request -- no emails or phone calls please. We also will require a first choice and second choice of teacher. The deadline for filling out the forms is April 5th.

Our third graders completed the IREAD assessment this week and so begins testing season! Spring Break is just around the corner and is just the pause our students need before finishing the last quarter with their personal best effort . Please watch your teacher's newsletters closely for testing schedules and make every attempt to schedule appointments outside the testing periods. It appears that our new ILEARN testing will take the better part of 3 weeks . Join us in encouraging your students to have the stamina and positive attitudes to do their best!

 8510 -WELLNESS POLICY

As required by law, the School Board establishes the following wellness policy for the Tippecanoe School Corporation as a part of a comprehensive wellness initiative.

The Board recognizes that good nutrition and regular physical activity affect the health and well-being of the Corporation's students. Furthermore, research suggests that there is a positive correlation between a student's health and well-being and his/her ability to learn. Moreover, schools can play an important role in the developmental process by which students establish their health and nutrition habits by providing nutritious meals and snacks through the schools' meal programs, by supporting the development of good eating habits, and by promoting increased physical activity both in and out of school.

Schools alone, however, cannot develop in students' healthy behaviors and habits with regard to eating and exercise. It will be necessary for not only the staff but also parents and the public at large to be involved in a community-wide effort to promote, support, and model such healthy behaviors and habits.

The Board sets the following goals in an effort to enable students to establish good health and nutrition habits:

The Board designates the Superintendent/designee as the individual charged with operational responsibility for measuring and evaluating the Corporation's implementation and progress under this policy.

The Superintendent shall appoint the Corporation wellness committee that includes parents, students, representatives of the school food authority, nutritionists or certified dieticians, educational staff (including health and physical education teachers), mental health and social service staff, school health professionals, the School Board, school administrators, and members of the public to oversee the development, implementation, evaluation, and periodic update, if necessary, of the wellness policy.

             The A.R. store needs YOU!

The A.R. store continues to accept donations.  If you have any gently used toys, stuffed animals, books or games that your children no longer utilize, the A.R. store would gladly accept them.  Please be sure that the items sent are clean, in working order, and that all pieces and parts are included.  Donations of prepackaged goodies are also encouraged:  Rice Krispie Treats, single-serve packages of cookies, Goldfish, Cheez-its, for example.  The A.R store will also accept monetary donations so that new merchandise can be purchased.  Since Mrs. Cupp is the buyer, if you wish to donate by check, please make it payable to Tina Cupp.  Thank you for your continued support of the A.R. store.  The children love shopping and are always happy to see the variety of merchandise.  It is a motivating reward for all of the reading that they do... and boy do they read!

Volunteer Informaton

It is a priority of the Tippecanoe School Corporation to provide a safe learning environment for all of our students and employees. In an effort to continue our due diligence, we now require all volunteers having ongoing contact with children and/or supervising students (field trips, etc.) to have cleared an expanded criminal background check. These background checks are conducted through Background Investigation Bureau (BIB).

The criminal background check will search national sex offender databases, court records, and other sources. The cost of the criminal history check is $17.95 (base cost) and is paid for by the volunteer through a link on our website.

Once approved, the volunteer will receive a TSC Volunteer identification card that will be valid for a period of three (3) years. If you volunteer in multiple buildings, you will only need to complete one background check.

Volunteer background checks may take several business days to process so it is important to plan ahead.

We appreciate your understanding of this important safety guideline.
