Words from Mr. Simmons...

Thank you for another great week at DES!  It was great to be back in a normal schedule with no school delays.  We will be NWEA testing this next week.  Testing will take place throughout the school week.  The week of March 18th-22nd, 3rd graders will be taking the IREAD-3 test.  Please make sure that your student is here throughout the week so that they can do their best on this important test.

We also hope to see your student at our Luau dance on Friday.  Friday will also be Hawaiian Day at DES.  Please feel free to allow your student to wear Hawaiian gear to school that day.

You will see below, but if you have an incoming Kindergarten student, please make sure that you contact the office.  Our Kindergarten registration will be on April 10th for all TSC schools. We look forward to welcoming our newest Bulldogs for the 2019-2020 school year.

We look forward to another great week.  Have a great weekend!

- Mr. Simmons, Principal

Wellness

From The Nurse's Office

As required by law, the School Board establishes the following wellness policy for the Tippecanoe School Corporation as a part of a comprehensive wellness initiative.

The Board recognizes that good nutrition and regular physical activity affect the health and well-being of the Corporation's students. Furthermore, research suggests that there is a positive correlation between a student's health and well-being and his/her ability to learn. Moreover, schools can play an important role in the developmental process by which students establish their health and nutrition habits by providing nutritious meals and snacks through the schools' meal programs, by supporting the development of good eating habits, and by promoting increased physical activity both in and out of school.

Schools alone, however, cannot develop in students healthy behaviors and habits with regard to eating and exercise. It will be necessary for not only the staff but also parents and the public at large to be involved in a community-wide effort to promote, support, and model such healthy behaviors and habits.

Iread test

IREAD

We will be giving the IREAD test to all 3rd grade students March 18-22.  It is very important that every 3rd grade student is present every day that week.  Please refrain from scheduling doctor appointments during this time.  Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest and eats a good breakfast each morning.  Children who do not pass this test will have an opportunity to attend a remedial summer program offered by the Tippecanoe School Corporation.  The exam will then be re-administered to those students in June.

Art to Remember.

Art To Remember

Our wonderful art teacher, Mrs. Barnes, will be selecting one piece of art work from each student to submit to Art to Remember fundraising. You will be able to purchase keepsake products with your student's selected artwork on it.  Please look for order forms to come home on April 16.  For more information go to www.ArtToRemember.com.

Habit 6, synergize.

Habit Home Run

Habit #6, Synergize, has been a focus over the past month.  Students have learned synergy is not just teamwork and cooperation, but creative teamwork and creative cooperation.  It happens when we work together to create something new; when we listen to all ideas and then create an even better idea together.

Leaders who synergize recognize and celebrate differences as strengths.  By involving others, everyone's strengths are used to accomplish goals.

We would love to recognize when your child has been a leader and has demonstrated that "together is better"!  Please share an instance when your child has combined their ideas with others' ideas to create an even better plan.
