Box Tops for Education Update from Amber Simons

At the end of October the PTO box top committee worked together to sort, cut, clip, and package all the box tops that have recently been submitted. We are pleased to report that the school earned $416.50 for our recent submission. The next submission deadline is March 1, 2018 so please keep on collecting and sending in your box tops to the school. Make sure to get them in to us before they expire! Finally, thanks to these awesome parent volunteers who helped with this most recent submission: Amanda Balser, Kim Kendall, Lorena Macias, Melanie Sheplar, and Melissa Williams.

Yearbook Cover Design Contest

It's time to start thinking about this years yearbook and students we need your help. We'll be taking designs for both the front cover and the back cover. Any Wea Ridge Elementary student wishing to submit a design can do so by turning in their artwork on a blank 8.5 x 11 piece of paper no later than Wednesday, Nov. 22.

Winners will be announced by Friday, Dec. 1. Each winning entry will receive a free yearbook.

The second graders had the pleasure of visiting with our School Resource Officers, Deputy Aaron Gilman and Officer Robert Rush. Deputy Gilman and Officer Rush told us about their jobs, the special tools on their belts, and their role in the community. They shared with us some rules about staying safe when we are walking around our community. Each day they use their ears to listen to problems, their mouth to help solve problems and their brain to problem solve. When we see them at school, we know they are here to keep us safe. Thanks Deputy Gilman and Officer Rush for visiting with us!

If you are interested in becoming a Read to Succeed volunteer, visit for more information and to enroll.

We currently have two needs to fill here at Wea Ridge:

3rd Grade, Thursday 1:30P-2:20P, Missy Buche
3rd Grade, Tuesday 1:00P-2:00P, Madeena Coates

Winter is approaching!

This means colder weather! Please make sure your child has a coat, hat and gloves for outdoor recess. We will be going outside as much as possible. The children will continue to go outside until the temperature is 20 degrees or a wind chill of 20 degrees.  Studies show that outside play helps to develop the prefrontal cortex. It calms anxiety and refocuses the brain. Please label your child's belongings either inside the pocket, cuff or on a tag so that when they misplace them we can return them! Talk to your child about the need to be proactive in dressing for the weather! Thank you for partnering with us to keep your child safe and active.

Veterans Day/Military Appreciation Week

This year to pay tribute to veterans, students decorated a red, silver or blue star to honor
a family member that served. The stars were hung around the school and are fabulous! On
November 8th, we had a school wide convocation in the gym and Mrs. Ewigleben led the children
in patriotic songs. We welcomed and recognized several veterans of our WRE families.

Thank you to all our veterans for your service to our country!

Reminders :

COMMUNICATION: Remember to call in your child's absence first thing in the morning. Please leave a message if we are unable to answer the phone. This helps to ensure all the children are accounted for and safe.  Include both Mrs. Blann ( ) and Mrs. Garza ( ) on emails to school about absences and parent pick-ups. Also, try to call the office by 3:00 in the afternoon if you are going to be picking your
child up from school. Thank you for your assistance with this process.

EMAIL : We are always very appreciative when parents communicate with us. Please note that teachers do not always have the opportunity to respond to email during a school day. Some teachers have their 30 minute preparation period early in the morning and are consumed with teaching the remainder of the student day. Email is an effective means of
communicating for some situations. It may not always be the most practical. Your child's teacher will provide guidance on this matter.

SCHOOL START TIME : A reminder that school opens and starts at 8:50. Your child will be counted tardy if they arrive after 9:00. If you arrive early, please keep your child with you. To keep children and parents safe, please do not drop your children off at the front entrance unless it is after 9am and then you must accompany them inside the school to get them checked in. Thank you for your understanding. Please remember to call the office if your child
will be absent, late or picked up early, 765-471-9321.

LUNCH: You are more than welcome to join your student for lunch! If you would like to order and eat a school lunch with your child, please let the office know before 10am so we can get that ordered for you. Also, adult lunch is $2.70 and exact change is requested. You are welcome to bring a sack lunch from home. Please NO take out or fast food is allowed per TSC policy. If you arrive a few minutes prior to your child's scheduled lunch time, the office staff will get you checked in!
