We are reaching out to ask you to take part in the Technology & Learning questionnaire. Your participation is essential in helping us form a more complete picture of technology use for learning in your students' lives. For our Lifeline for January, we will be talking about Problem Solving- to work to solve a difficult situation or everyday problem. Problem solving looks like figuring out a task or putting an object together. Problem solving sounds like "I get it now," or "It fits." Problem solving feels interesting, frustrating, or sometimes challenging.
When your child reports or complains about a problem, help your child decide if it's a big problem or a small problem. Ask your child these questions:
Is someone hurt? Have you tried to solve it and you can't? If the answer is yes, then help your child solve the problem. But how do I solve a problem?? It's simple follow these basic steps! Small Problem Solutions What could you try do to do solve the problem? If it is a small problem, help your child solve it on their own. Your most important role is to listen and encourage your child to solve their problem. Here are some ideas from the Kelso Problem Solving program we use at school: Go to another game Play with someone else Talk it out (I feel _______ when ________.) Share and take turns Ignore it Walk away Tell them to stop Apologize (I'm sorry for _________.) Make a plan Wait and cool off Decision-Making Teaching young children the process of making good and healthy choices needs to be clear and simple. At Anson we use four questions to guide children: Is it safe? Is it kind? Is it responsible? What will happen?
Here are some wordless videos that depict people & animals facing problems. Ask your student how they would solve the problem and help them figure out how to "break down" the steps the character used to solve their problem.

Counseling Update Safe2Talk Text 765-742-0244 Teen Texting Program with Mental Health America of Tippecanoe County
The Safe2Talk texts are responded to by employees and volunteers of Mental Health America of Tippecanoe County (MHA). All texts are responded to in seconds and the line is staffed 24/7. MHA staff and volunteers go through an extensive assessment and successfully complete 40 hours of classroom training, as well as on-the-job preparation. Safe2Talk is certified as a crisis center by the American Association of Suicidality as part of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Only the best practices, policies, and procedures are used. In association with the Safe 2Talk initiative all TSC Administrators and school counselors have been trained in QPR. QPR stands for Question, Persuade and Refer. These are three steps anyone can learn to help prevent suicide. This training session teaches attendees how to recognize the warning signs and risk factors associated with suicidal thoughts and when to utilize QPR. Just like CPR, QPR is an emergency response to someone in crisis and can save lives. This training is recognized by the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration as an evidence-based training. Safe2Talk is a collaborative effort of IU Health Arnett and Mental Health of America of Tippecanoe County, in an effort to address a top need identified through IU Health's Community Health Needs Assessment. For additional information please contact the TSC School Counselor in your respective school or contact Mental Health America of Tippecanoe County at 765-742-1800.
