Child Assistance Services
Bauer Family Resources Bauer Child Services Child-centered, family-focused prevention and intervention services are provided to families in Benton, Carroll, Clinton, Fountain, Tippecanoe, Warren, and White counties. Services are designed to overcome the risk factors associated with children abuse and neglect and to educate and strengthen families. Services are provided through the lens of child safety with an emphasis on the family strengths and protective factors that can be leveraged to ensure children are safe. Services are focused on the family as a whole and emphasize the partnering with families to meet their individual needs. Bauer Youth Services The Youth Development Program is an after-school and summer program provided by Bauer Family Resources at the Bauer Community Center. The Youth Development Program is free and open to youth grades 1-12. The Youth Development Program promotes attaining social and educational goals by providing constructive activities and building leadership skills. Bauer Early Care and Education Bauer Family Resources operates the community based Head Start programs in Carroll, Clinton, Tippecanoe, and White Counties. The program promotes school readiness by enhancing social, cognitive, language, and physical development of children ages 6 weeks to age 5, and pregnant women. This is accomplished through the provision of educational, health, nutritional, social, and other services to the enrolled children and families. Families of children age 6 weeks to 35 months may qualify for either the Home-based program or the full-day Center-based program. In all 4 counties, 3 year olds are placed in our full-day preschool classrooms and 4 year olds heading to Kindergarten in the fall are placed in our full-day pre-kindergarten classroom. |
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Lafayette The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Lafayette is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers ("Bigs") and children ("Littles"), ages 7 through 18, thus developing positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people. |
The Child Care Resource Network The Child Care Resource Network is a community-based service that helps to create links between the diverse elements of the child care system. Aspire Indiana Aspire Indiana offers free HIV-specific services to individuals residing in Tippecanoe County and the 9 surrounding counties. Participants in the HIV Care Coordination program must be HIV+ and be an Indiana resident. Aspire assists in accessing housing, medical coverage, social support, referrals to community resources, and education about HIV/AIDS. |
Excel Center The Excel Center is a tuition-free school for adults (and older youth) who want to earn a Core 40 high school diploma. Students receive classroom instruction for key academic subjects. The Excel Center pays costs for students to earn industry-recognized certifications and dual credits from local universities. The Excel Center assigns a life coach to each student to find solutions to life changes that may hinder personal and academic progress. The school also provides free child care and free transportation in the form of City Bus passes. The Excel Center is sponsored by Goodwill Industries via Goodwill Education Initiatives. |
Family Promise Family Promise of Greater Lafayette, Inc. is a homeless shelter for families with children under 18 years of age. Families must be residents of Tippecanoe or the surrounding counties, and must pass a criminal background check. The program has the capacity for up to 3 families (no more than 14 individuals at one time). Families may stay for up to 30 days. Adults are given assistance with job searching, career building, and case management to help obtain stable housing. |
Greater Lafayette Area Special Services (GLASS) The Greater Lafayette Area Special Services (GLASS) is a special education cooperative that serves the Lafayette, Indiana area (Tippecanoe County). GLASS provides a continuum of public services for approximately 3,600 students with disabilities from ages 3 through 21 years old who are enrolled in Lafayette School Corporation, Tippecanoe School Corporation, and West Lafayette Community School Corporation. |

Lafayette Adult Resource Academy (LARA) The Lafayette Adult Resource Academy is a college and career readiness program offering a continuum of adult educational opportunities for adults and out of school youth. LARA provides classes leading to high school credentials, preparation for college, workforce certifications, and English as a Second Language. LARA offers college and career counseling to help students identify their interests, talents, and goals. LARA offers morning, afternoon, and evening classes, and distance learning. Classes and on-site childcare are free. The WorkOne Express Site and LARA's job coach provide job search, resume writing, and career exploration. Meals on Wheels (MOW) of Greater Lafayette Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver meals to individuals in Tippecanoe County who are in need of better nutrition to improve their overall health and well being. Consumers of all ages and backgrounds are eligible to apply. Meals consist of a hot entree, two sides, a fruit, dessert, and drink. Meals on Wheels provides income-based assistance for eligible customers. We accept cash, checks, and Food Stamps as payments for meals. All meals are delivered Monday-Friday between 11:00 am and 12:30 pm. Baby formula (ensure) is also available for delivery by the case for wholesale price. Some consumers may be eligible for an initial free pet care visit and pet food on a monthly basis through the AniMeals Program in collaboration with VCA Animal Clinic in Lafayette. Housing Assistance
American Red Cross of Tippecanoe County A humanitarian organization, led by volunteers, that provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. It does this through services that are consistent with its Congressional Charter and the principles of the International Red Cross Movement. Family Promise of Greater Lafayette, Inc. Family Promise of Greater Lafayette, Inc. is a shelter for families with children experiencing homelessness. Families must be residents of Tippecanoe or surrounding counties and must pass a criminal background check. The program can house up to five families in their shelter for 60 days. Adults are given assistance with job searching, career building, and case management to help obtain stable housing. Please note that families need to contact Lafayette Transitional Housing Center (LTHC) at 765-423-4880 to complete an assessment for the program. If families meet the qualifications for the program, LTHC will send a referral to Family Promise. Without the referral, Family Promise cannot complete further assessments. |
Habitat for Humanity of Lafayette Volunteers build houses and sell each house to a selected family at cost on a 20 year no interest mortgage. Home with Hope Provides structured living and transitional services for alcoholics and addicts who are willing to work the Twelve Step, self-help program of recovery. The program includes a continuum of care, from initial assessment to aftercare planning, designed to assist a client in living a meaningful, comfortable, and productive life without the use of mood altering chemicals. |
Lafayette Housing Authority The Lafayette Housing Authority (LHA) administers the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program in households in the cities of Lafayette, West Lafayette, and the five mile radius surrounding the cities. It is one of the federal government's largest programs for assisting low income families to secure housing at an affordable cost. Participants in the program rent housing from private landlords and pay approximately 30% (not to exceed 40%) of their adjusted gross income toward rent, including an allowance for utilities paid by the participant. The Housing Authority pays assistance based on a payment standard set for the participant. The assistance is tied to the participant, not to the unit and thus provides flexibility to the participant in choosing where they want to live. |
Lafayette Transitional Housing Lafayette Transitional Housing Center (LTHC) Homeless Services Program provides intake, assessment, and triage to all persons who are experiencing a housing crisis. This coordinated entry approach streamlines access to the homeless services system which helps households facing housing loss to quickly access the services they need and for which they are eligible. Tippecanoe County Division of Family Resources (Medicaid, TANF, Food Stamps) The Tippecanoe County Division of Family Resources (DFR) administers public assistance programs such as food stamps, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), paternity matters, and other services that relate to financial resources to assist low-income families. |
Tippecanoe County is divided into 13 townships. A Township Trustee is an elected official who is responsible for township assistance for established residents of their township. This may include help with food, shelter, utilities (not including back rent, deposits, reconnect fees, or penalties), clothing, prescription medicine, and funeral expenses. Each township has different guidelines based on standards set by the State of Indiana. To apply for assistance, call the appropriate Township Trustee. |
Victory Christian Center For first-time receivers: Victory Christian Center requests that those in need attend church services. Victory will then fill out a visitor card and schedule an appointment.
