The Harrison Boiler Robotics team won the Indiana FIRST Robotics state championship April 14 in Kokomo. Sponsor teacher Doug Klumpe says after going 10 wins and 2 losses in the qualifications matches Friday and Saturday morning, the team was ranked as the captain of the number one seed alliance.
"We picked the Carmel and Michigan City teams to join our alliance for the double-elimination tournament," says Klumpe. "After getting through the quarter-finals and semi-finals matches, we were defeated in the first match of the finals round. The alliance came back and won the next two matches to bring the bragging rights home to Harrison that we are the alliance captains of the 2018 state championship team."
The Harrison team will be competing in the north division of the world competition April 27-28 in Detroit.
"The winning of the Indiana District State Championship is a culmination of many years of work, a lot of community and school cooperation support, and many hours of labor on behalf of our students and mentors," says Klumpe. "FIRST is a wonderful program that connects many Harrison students with different interests with many mentors in the community of different professions and skills."
