The School Nutrition Association (SNA) presented its President's Award of Excellence to Tippecanoe School Corporation Food Service Director Lori Shofroth. The award recognizes three state presidents each year - one from each of SNA's member divisions.
The President's Award of Excellence recognizes state presidents who demonstrate extraordinary leadership by successfully implementing strategies that advance school nutrition programs in their states. Awardees are honored for their extra effort in achieving excellence in each of SNA's four strategic goals, with accomplishments ranging from increasing membership and participation in professional development programs to efforts to enhance the public image of school meal programs and expand community outreach to support them.
Under Shofroth's leadership, Indiana SNA is at the top of its division for growth in membership and one of only five state affiliates with an increase of 10 percent or more since May 2016. Indiana SNA was also recognized for creative initiatives such as working with the Department of Education to create a toolkit for superintendents and business managers on how to hire a child nutrition director.
