Students from McCutcheon High School and Harrison High School joined their peers from other local schools to participate in the "Our Voices Matter" Youth Summit at the Junior Achievement Financial Park at the Lafayette YMCA. The Tippecanoe School Corporation, in collaboration with the Opioid Task Force subcommittee, organized the event to help gather input from local teens on various issues.
Students divided in to small groups and answered several questions: What do you think are the biggest stressors that youth face today? What substances do you think are being used the most by high school youth? What kinds of barriers stop kids for asking for help for themselves or someone else? What issues are youth facing that schools/community need to be paying more attention to?
McCutcheon High School Counselor Megan Ulrich says the students did a great job lending their voices to the discussion of what the schools and community can do to best help teens today. The committee will collect data from the event and present it to the Opioid Task Force, as well as the Mental Health Roundtable for school counselors and mental health providers in the fall.
