East Tipp named one of America’s Healthiest Schools again

East Tipp Middle School continues to set the standard for school health and wellness, earning recognition as one of America’s Healthiest Schools for another year.

The Alliance for a Healthier Generation named East Tipp a 2026 award winner in three areas: Enriching Health Education, Supporting School Health Services and Bolstering P.E. and Physical Activity.

“We strive to give our students the knowledge, skills, confidence and opportunities they need to make healthy choices not only while they are at school, but throughout their lives,” says Danielle Wynn, East Tipp wellness teacher and coach.

One of the ways East Tipp approaches wellness differently is by offering physical education year-round, with two groups utilizing the gym throughout the school year. This structure gives students additional opportunities to move and exercise each day.

Beyond the P.E. classroom, students learn CPR and first aid and participate in a variety of events such as the East Tipp Fun Run. The East Tipp Strong Club gives students and staff opportunities to play games, lift weights and work out together in a supportive environment.

The CPR training became especially meaningful last year when three East Tipp students used their skills to help save a man’s life at a local store. The three girls worked together to provide lifesaving care until help arrived.

Wellness is a team effort for East Tipp staff members, too. Teachers and staff participate in the school’s INtegrate program and take part in schoolwide wellness competitions, tracking steps and workouts while encouraging one another to make healthy choices.

The school’s “School of Love” motto also shapes its approach to wellness, Wynn says. Students support one another, celebrate accomplishments and encourage their classmates to try something new.

For East Tipp, the national recognition reflects a culture that extends beyond any single program or activity.

“At East Tipp, wellness is more than a program or an award. It is part of who we are,” Wynn says. “When we give them the opportunity to challenge themselves, support one another and celebrate their successes, they are capable of incredible things.”
