Sheriff's deputy begins new role as TSC school resource officer

A nine-year veteran of the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office has joined Tippecanoe School Corporation as its newest school resource officer.

Levi Richter joins the TSC’s eight-member School Resource Officer (SRO) program after Deputy Nathan Beever accepted another position within the sheriff’s office.

Richter began his career in law enforcement in 2017 and has served in a variety of roles including a detective specializing in crimes against children. He is a graduate of Fountain Central High School and earned an associate’s degree in criminal justice from Ivy Tech Community College.

In addition to his law enforcement experience, Richter has worked as a substitute teacher, coach, volunteer firefighter and EMT, giving him a broad background working with children and families. He is also a TSC parent, giving him a personal perspective on the importance of safe, welcoming schools.

"Deputy Richter brings a unique combination of experience, professionalism and a genuine passion for working with young people," Sheriff Bob Goldsmith says. "Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a commitment to protecting children and building relationships in our community. His background and character make him an excellent fit for the School Resource Officer program, where he'll serve as a mentor, educator and trusted resource for students and staff."

Richter says he was drawn to the SRO position as a way to have a positive influence on young people.

“Some of the most satisfying moments in my career came from advocating for children,” says Richter. “A positive experience with law enforcement has the potential to alter the course of a child’s life.”

Richter is primarily assigned to the Klondike campus, Wea Ridge campus and Woodland Elementary School.

TSC’s School Resource Officer program serves nearly 14,000 students across 22 school locations. Richter joins Lucas Boyle, Cody Caballero, Beth Frazier, Daniel McDermott, Jason Morgan, Rob Rush and Steven Stonerock on the SRO team.
