TSC expands school resource officer team with newest deputy
Sue Scott

The Tippecanoe School Corporation is adding another sheriff’s deputy to its growing school resource officer (SRO) program, creating the largest SRO team in district history. Deputy Cody Caballero will serve as the eighth officer supporting safety and security across TSC schools.

The expansion reflects more than a decade of growth. Through the years, TSC hired retired Deputy Aaron Gilman as the safety manager and has grown the SRO program through a strong partnership with the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office.

“Adding Deputy Caballero strengthens our partnership with TSC and our commitment to creating a welcoming, secure environment for all students,” Sheriff Bob Goldsmith says. “SROs aren’t just here for emergencies. They’re here every day to build relationships and support the school community.”

Caballero began his law enforcement career in the Chicago area before joining the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office in 2021. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Concordia University Chicago and will be primarily assigned to Harrison High School.

“I became interested in being an SRO because of my experience with my own SRO in high school in Lemont, Illinois,” Caballero says. “I always knew I wanted to be a police officer, and I look forward to bringing a positive attitude every day while building relationships that help students feel safe and supported.”

Caballero joins Nathan Beever, Lucas Boyle, Beth Frazier, Dan McDermott, Jason Morgan, Rob Rush and Steven Stonerock in serving nearly 14,000 students at 22 TSC school locations.

School Resource Officers (SROs) promote a safe learning environment by building relationships with students and staff. While they serve as law enforcement officers, their primary focus is helping young people develop personal responsibility and make good decisions. SROs provide classroom education, engage students in hallways, lunchrooms and playgrounds and work with school staff to enhance safety procedures.
