TSC revises indoor mask policy
Sue Scott

In an effort to keep schools open and minimize learning disruptions related to mandated quarantine rules, the TSC Board of School Trustees has revised its 2021-22 school opening plan regarding wearing masks while inside TSC buildings. All students, staff and visitors will be required to wear masks while indoors, regardless of vaccination status, effective Wednesday, August 25.

This change follows an increase in positive COVID-19 cases in the community and an increase in the number of students placed in quarantine. All schools are required to follow quarantine protocols established by the Tippecanoe County Health Department, Indiana Department of Health and the Indiana Governor’s executive order. If students and staff members are wearing masks, the criteria of being designated as close contact is reduced from six feet to three feet. By wearing masks, we can reduce quarantines that can disrupt learning and negatively affect work schedules of families.

Staff will provide students opportunities, as is allowed by state health protocols, to remove their masks at appropriate times when eating, when social distancing is possible and while outdoors.

The TSC School Board will continue to monitor data and advise schools appropriately if additional changes are necessary or when certain restrictions are lifted.
