TSC teachers receive grants from Evonik
Sue Scott

Evonik Tippecanoe Laboratories awarded Partners in Education grants to two TSC teachers to fund science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) projects this school year. The winners are Stephanie Bosma from Klondike Elementary School and Hannah McElroy from Burnett Creek Elementary School.

Bosma's grant is titled “Imagine It, Make It: Building a 3-Dimensional Dream.” She plans to purchase a 3D printer for her first grade class. “With 3D printing, students become designers and creators using cutting-edge technology to visualize and create their own imaginations,” says Bosma. She says the printer can be used across all curricula and the rest of the school will be inspired and encouraged to borrow it.

McElroy’s grant is titled “Simple Machines with a Twist.” She says it’s an enrichment unit to get her third grade high ability students excited, engaged and thinking creatively about simple machines. “This project involves learning about simple machines through the use of balloon animals,” says McElroy. “A representative from Pretty Funny Balloons comes to the school and does a program about simple machines and balloon animals. This grant would provide items for students to use tor research, hands-on inquiry of simple machines and an engaging way to learn about simple machines.”
