Welding students forge success in competition

GLCA welding students are transforming metal into masterpieces, one weld at a time. That craftsmanship was displayed as Gage Clark and his classmates showcased their skills at the West Central Indiana Welding Competition February 20 at North Montgomery High School. 

“This competition will not be my last,” says Gage, a Harrison High School senior who placed first in the theory category. “It was a fantastic opportunity to compete in this exciting event because I want to pursue a career in welding.” He says competitions are not only a chance to test one’s skills but also a great way to meet new people who share similar interests. 

In preparation for the event, Gage dedicated his Saturday morning to reviewing past tests and studying new material.

Welding instructor Roger King says Gage’s hard work paid off, contributing to the team’s strong performance. “The team did wonderfully for the limited amount of time they worked on this project. They had five days and it was a quick turnaround,” says King.
